Through its Pit Weld U brand, PIT offers a variety of welding workshops that are perfect for the self-designated hobbyist or do-it-yourselfer.  Held at the Pit Weld U welding shop at 133 Byers Creek Rd, Suite C, Mooresville, NC, we strive to offer an option that fits your needs.

Weld Art Workshop

Events occur from 9am-1pm

2024 Dates: March 2, June 1, Sept 7, Nov 23

Description:  Our themed workshops are perfect for the artistic individuals with a desire to make a “themed” take-home project.  Think decorative metal art you see and love on Pinterest!!  Projects are focused on the season – spring, summer, fall and holiday – with different projects to choose from for each event.  Cost is only $149/person and includes rental gear.  No prior welding experience?  No problem!  The workshops are designed for the true novice welder.  Each event is limited to 12 participants.

Weekend MIG Welding Workshop

Events occur on Sat 8am-4pm & Sun 8am-3pm

2024 Dates: April 13, April 27 MIG for Women, July 13, Oct 5

Description:  Designed for the novice/hobbyist welder who’d like to learn the basics of the MIG welding process, participants will learn about welder setup and components, welding techniques and more.  Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to build useful take-home projects themselves as part of the experience. The fee for participants under 18 years of age is only half-price when accompanied by a participating family member/guardian at the workshop. Weekend Intro to TIG Welding Workshop (Level I)

Events occur on Sat 8am-4pm & Sun 8am-3pm

2024 Dates: May 18, July 27, Sept 21

Description:  Perfect for the entry level welder or hobbyist, the course focuses on the basic theory behind TIG welding, machine setup and operation and proper welding techniques. Participants will learn to weld butt joints, lap joints and t-joints on steel and aluminum applications.

Weekend Level II TIG Welding Workshop

Events occur on Sat 8am-4pm & Sun 8am-3pm

2024 Dates: Oct 19-20

Description:  Geared for the individual who was taken our Level I (Intro) TIG Welding workshop, or the individual with some prior welding experience, the course is designed to take their skillset to the next level. Applications include steel, stainless steel, chrome moly and aluminum tubing, as well as different types of joints.  Topics discussed will also include the importance of back-purging with stainless steel applications, along with proper techniques on unique applications - exhaust, thin wall steel/sheet metal and more.  This workshop is limited to ten (10) participants to allow more booth time, with a cost of $419/person.

Weekend Level III TIG Welding Workshop

Events occur on Sat 8am-4pm & Sun 8am-3pm

2024 Dates: Nov 9-10

Description:  Geared for the individual who was taken our Level I (Intro) TIG and Level II TIG Welding workshops, or the enthusiast with prior welding experience, the course is designed to take your skillset to the next level. Applications include thin-wall aluminum tubing (i.e.: intake manifolds), stainless steel tubing (exhaust applications) and pie cuts, and titanium tubing (exhaust applications) and pie cuts.  Topics discussed will also include the importance of back-purging, proper heat control and more. This workshop is limited to ten (10) participants to allow more booth time, with a cost of $495/person.

Weekend SMAW (Stick) Welding Workshop

Events occur on Sat 8am-4pm & Sun 8am-3pm

2024 Dates: October 26-27

Description: Designed for a novice, the workshop focuses on stick welding techniques on carbon steel applications utilizing a variety of different rod types.  Participants will learn how to properly prepare material for welding and repairs, as well as groove and fillet welds.  The two-day event is perfect for those working in the farming/agriculture industries, as well as those who simply want to learn the trade.

Two-Day Workshop Details:

Cost:  $319 - $495/person (Level II & Level III TIG Workshops are $419 and $495/person, all others are $319/person)

Times:  8am - 4pm on Saturday, 8am - 3pm on Sunday

Workshop Capacity:  20-24 participant limit (10 max for Level II TIG & Level III TIG Workshops)

Meals:  One hour will be provided for lunch each day, with refreshments provided for attendees.

5-Day Fabrication Workshop

2024 Dates: Stay Tuned!

Description: Workshop teaches the ins-and-outs of motorsports fabrication techniques perfect for the novice or grassroots short track racer.  Focusing on sheet metal and tubing applications, instructors will teach participants how to properly use an English wheel, bead roller, tubing bender, shrinker/stretcher, and more.  It is strongly encouraged that participants have a general knowledge of welding before registering for the course – whether they are self-taught or have taken one of our weekend welding workshops previously. Each event is limited to 6 participants at a cost of only $995/person.

Youth Summer Camp Welding Workshop

2024 Dates: June 24-28

Description: Designed for the youth who have an interest in learning a trade, the week-long event focuses on common welding processes.  Participants will spend the week learning the MIG and TIG welding processes on steel and aluminum (TIG) applications and will be assigned their own booths throughout the duration of the session.  Instructors will also cover machine setup and operation, welder components and more during the week-long workshop. Youth must be between 12-17 years old to take part. Limited to 12 participants at a cost of only $749/person.

MIG/TIG Combo Welding Workshop

2024 Dates: July 22-26

Description: Learn the theory behind the MIG and TIG welding processes, machine setup and operation, components, and basic welding fabrication techniques during the weeklong event.  Focusing on steel and aluminum sheet and tubing applications during the event, participants will be assigned their own welding booth, permitting significant hands-on time to perfect their welding techniques.  Limited to 12 participants at a cost of only $995/person.

5-Day Workshop Details:

Cost:  $749 - $995/person

Times:  8am - 4pm Monday - Thursday, 8am - 3pm Friday

Workshop Capacity:  12 participant maximum (6 maximum for Fabrication Workshops)

Meals:  One hour will be provided for lunch each day, with refreshments provided for attendees.

Additional Information

 

What to Bring: 

 

Participants are required to provide their own personal protective equipment (PPE) – including welding helmet, welding jacket or sleeves, long pants and close-toed shoes (no athletic attire permitted), safety glasses and ear plugs.  We offer welding bundles for rent for $49.95 (welding workshops only) as well as a variety of options for purchase. Rental gear is washed and sanitized after each event.  We are your local Blue Demon and Fronius distributor for welding gear (helmets, jackets, gloves, etc.) as well as machines.  An updated online store is coming shortly; in the meantime, feel free to stop by our welding shop located at 133 Byers Creek Rd, Suite C, Mooresville, NC 28117 to shop!

Registration:     

Simply complete and submit the online registration form with your payment.  Seats are filled on a first-come, first serve basis.  Participants must be 12 years old to take part.  Participants who are under 16 are only allowed to participate with a parent/guardian who has also registered unless attending a Youth Summer Camp event.
