UNCC offers summer camps to interested students that specialize in different career fields.
The UNCC Medcamp class toured PIT to learn how Athletic Trainers have become a valuable part of today’s NASCAR teams, and see live demonstration pit stops up close!
On June 14th, SPEED Channel’s camera crew used PIT’s state-of-the-art facility as a shooting ground for an upcoming series on the Chevrolet Corvette.
American Sugar Refining Company brought twenty-nine people to PIT on June 8th for a Team Building Event.
The full-day event included a theatre presentation and Red Horse Racing Insiders Shop Tour in the morning, followed by lunch and Pit Crew Experience in the afternoon.
Twenty-five maintenance personnel from the USAF Dover Base attended PIT’s two day Team Building program on June 1-2.
The first day consisted of a theatre presentation in the morning and pit crew experience in the afternoon. A breakdown of their experience and a tour of Michael Waltrip Racing took place on the second day.
PIT held its second annual Open House on Wednesday, May 25th, 2011. Approximately 200 people stopped by to enjoy the evening’s activities.

A team from Norfolk Southern traveled to PIT’s state-of-the-art facility on May 17th for their own customized team building experience.
There were three teams participating in the team building event which included a theatre presentation, a Red Horse Racing Insiders Shop Tour and their own hands-on pit road experience.

In the early days of NASCAR, the pit crew typically consisted of the driver’s buddies, who got paid in beer and goodwill. But in increasingly close competitions where seconds matter, pit crews go to schools like this one in Mooresville, 20 miles north of Charlotte, to master specialized skills.
“You could go from first to fifth place for want of a lug nut,” says P.I.T. marketing director Bob Plott.
The gritty choreography performed by the six-member crews to the rat-a-tat-tat accompaniment of an air wrench is oddly mesmerizing. Ten or so NASCAR pit crews train on this quarter-mile track, and today a race vehicle screeches to a halt again and again on pit road, testing the students’ mettle.
In the best drill of the afternoon, it takes the six brawny trainees a mere 12.8 seconds to jack up the 3,400-pound vehicle, change four 70-pound tires and pour 18 gallons of gas into the tank. The noise and speed are kind of alarming - like witnessing a well-executed bank heist - but graceful, too.
The school welcomes casual spectators and offers pre-arranged tours for groups.
Performance Instruction & Training (PIT) is hosting its Second Annual Open House on Wednesday May 25th, 2011. The open house will take place from 6:00 - 9:00pm at PIT’s five acre campus in Mooresville, NC.
During the Open House, you will get to tour PIT’s 35,000 square foot facility which includes a ¼ mile race track, six pit stall pit road, fourteen show cars and trucks, a full fitness center, and more. Red Horse Racing (RHR) drivers Timothy Peters and Miguel Paludo, as well as FOX Analyst and six-time championship crew chief Jeff Hammond will be signing autographs from 6:30pm - 7:30pm. 103.7 WSOC FM will be on-site as well and will with free give-a-ways (free oil changes, other goodies, etc). Monster Energy Drink will also have a team on-site with free give-a-ways. In addition to all of the above mentioned activities, there will also be live demonstration pit stops throughout the evening. Sports Page, a local restaurant, will also be on-site with free food!
PIT is the home of Pit Crew U, the oldest and most successful pit crew training program in the nation. Since 2001, more than 900 students from 48 states and four countries have completed Pit Crew U and have become the most sought after athletes on pit road.
